  • The Des Moines Pickleball Team Classic was held at Dink’s Pickleball at Merle Hay Mall—over 200 players took part to raise money for a local children’s hospital. Tournament directors Kylie Kolz and Derek Johnson said previous tournaments raised $44,000, and this year all proceeds went to Blank Children’s Hospital.  WHO 13
  • Influential central Iowa developer, businessman and philanthropist Bill Knapp died Saturday morning at 99. Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds said his legacy as a self-made entrepreneur— dedicated civic leader will continue to impact Des Moines for generations.  KCCI

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Food & Water Watch, Progress Iowa, Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement and the Harkin Institute held a Water Quality Solutions Townhall in Des Moines on Saturday—organizers explained water quality challenges and called on lawmakers to act for cleaner water—. Community members supported the grassroots effort to improve Iowa's water safety.  WHO 13
