CRIME NEWS

  • A jury on Friday found 32 year old Joshua Carmody guilty of first-degree murder and first-degree burglary after he broke into the Ramada Inn on Army Post Road in 2024 and fatally shot Sayvon Propps, who fired in self-defense, and his sentencing date remains pending.  KCCI

  • A Des Moines man was found guilty of first degree murder for shooting 30 year old Sayvon Propps at a hotel on April 10, 2024 with evidence showing Propps fired in self defense before 31 year old Joshua Carmody returned fire—this jury conviction for murder, burglary, and possession of a firearm by a felon carries a mandatory life sentence.  WHO 13

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new report by the Maternal Mortality Review Committee found that nearly all pregnancy-related deaths in Iowa from 2019 to 2021 were preventable—nineteen out of twenty cases—and it recommends improved screening and coordinated care to address risk factors faced by Hispanic, black and Medicaid patients.  Radio Iowa

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Iowa soils have warmed since late March with southern areas averaging 50 to 53 degrees and northeastern regions at 43 degrees, though frost can still occur when temperatures drop to 33 to 36 degrees.
