  • American Airlines is adding two daily flights between Des Moines and Chicago's O'Hare Airport in February, raising the total to five daily flights. Tickets are available (via the airline’s website) for purchase now.  KCCI

  • The late Carl Moyer's multimillion-dollar car collection, including nearly 40 prized vehicles, will be auctioned in Florida on Jan. 17. His family hired Mecum Auctions and shipped most cars from his Ankeny garages to Kissimmee after finding upkeep too difficult.  KCCI
  • Collective Artistry owners Arina Soda and Julio Moreno are inviting local artists to join their shop to build a shared creative space for community art, and they said they plan to host events that highlight local talent.  The Des Moines Register

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • New state law will bar EBT cards from purchasing sugary foods such as soda and candy and restrict prepared foods effective Jan. 1. Stores in Iowa are posting signage to help customers adjust to SNAP rules, and Gov. Kim Reynolds says the change aims to promote healthy eating.  KCCI
  • Ten Iowa entities, including Johnson County and UI's Division of Sponsored Programs, will receive state grants of up to $1 million for opioid prevention and treatment; Johnson County will use its funds to expand its Mobile Integrated Health program, announced Tuesday and funded from opioid settlement money, to reduce misuse.  The Gazette

  • An Iowa heart expert at MercyOne-Iowa Heart Center warned that shoveling snow during the deadliest week for heart events increases risks and advised residents to take breaks or hire help for snow removal (even cold exposure can restrict blood flow).  Radio Iowa
