- ➤ A University of Iowa study is exploring crowdshipping – a system where store customers deliver online orders for a reward. Researchers say if five-percent of shoppers participate, the program could lower costs and cut delivery times by extending trips home up to 30 minutes. Radio Iowa
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Pulitzer Prize winner Art Cullen released his new docuseries 'What's Eating Iowa' that explores water pollution, rising cancer rates and farming challenges through interviews with experts and locals. The series, produced by Jerry Risius and available online since Dec. 8, aims to spark informed debate on Iowa's pressing issues. The Des Moines Register
- ➤ Two 12-year-olds from Adel had their handmade ornament designs added to the 59th national Christmas tree at President’s Park in Washington on Dec. 8 after winning America250’s America Field Trip contest; the contest for students in grades 3-12 will end on March 30. The Des Moines Register
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Des Moines Public Schools is launching a new bus tracking app, My Ride K-12, to replace Here Comes the Bus by Dec. 31. The app uses tablets with GPS (driver training is in progress) to provide families with detailed bus routes and arrival times. The Des Moines Register
- ➤ The Des Moines Register invites community votes for Student of the Week with nominees from West Des Moines and Norwalk school districts. Voting ends Dec. 12 at noon and the winner will be announced on Dec. 15. The Des Moines Register
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Drivers in Iowa must clear snow from windshields and lights (per Iowa Code 321.438) to avoid fines ranging from $105 to $850, and those under 18 may face lower fines or community service if their view is blocked. The Des Moines Register
