COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Des Moines is set to celebrate its first Hy-Vee Holiday Parade to kick off the season after Thanksgiving. Organized by Hy-Vee and WHO 13 — the parade will start at Principal Park with pre-parade coverage at 9 a.m. and a 10 a.m. kickoff on Saturday, Nov. 29, as it follows a 1.25-mile route through downtown.  The Des Moines Register
  • Central Iowa Christmas tree farms are offering both pre-cut and choose-and-cut trees around Thanksgiving so local residents can find a real tree for the holidays. Some farms like Miller, Howell's and Strautman began on November 22 while Walnut Ridge and Hill's will open on November 28.  The Des Moines Register

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Scattered showers moved across Iowa on Monday while temperatures stayed well above freezing, leaving a chilly and dry setup for Thanksgiving. The latest forecast shows that measurable snow will begin after 5 p.m. Friday until before 10 a.m. Saturday—some areas will receive over four inches and travelers should check the latest conditions before heading out.  WHO 13

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • In Polk County, the median home list price in October is $309,800—down 2.1% from September and 6.5% lower than last October, with homes averaging 1,432 square feet at $218 per square foot. New listings increased 3.8% to 864 while Des Moines metro prices slightly dipped to $339,450.  The Des Moines Register
