COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Iowa businessman Bill Knapp, a WWII veteran and real estate developer who helped shape central Iowa, died Saturday at his home at age 99—he founded Iowa Realty in 1950, donated millions to local institutions like Drake University, and will be buried later this week in Des Moines. His long career left a lasting mark on the community.  Radio Iowa

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Sac County’s largest employer EVAPCO is planning an expansion of its Lake View plant that will add 95,000 square feet—potentially providing up to 100 new jobs when completed. The project will shift production of stainless steel tubing locally instead of relying on Illinois shipments and builds on a 2022 $12.5M expansion that added 85 jobs.  Radio Iowa
  • Duck Donuts closed its Tyler Street store in Polk City on November 16 because customer traffic did not meet expectations. The business will launch a food truck in 2026 that accepts Quack Cards and vouchers—giving them more flexibility.  KCCI

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Iowa soybean farmers stored more grain this fall because the market was weak due to a trade dispute with China—many hope that holding their crop will yield higher prices later to cover growing costs.  The Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Indianola city council approved a new agreement with the Animal Rescue League to provide animal control services instead of Kiya Koda Humane Society—ending the existing $54,000 a year contract. Under the new deal, the city will pay $226 per animal if it remains at the league after a seven-day holding period—while police transport the animals.  KCCI

SPORTS NEWS

  • Kyle Krause sold Kum & Go and now is focused on building a new soccer stadium in downtown Des Moines at the old DICO site. He said the stadium—set to host both a women’s team and a men’s team—will start construction in 2026 once the final funding is closed by the city, state, and private donors, with women’s games planned for fall.  KCCI
  • No. 21 Iowa women defeated Northern Iowa 74-41 on Sunday as Chazadi Wright scored 19 points and Layla Hays added 14 from the bench. The win extended the Hawkeyes' series lead to 28-3 and marked six straight victories in 18 of the last 19 meetings.  KCCI
