CULTURE NEWS

  • The iconic Nomade sculpture at Pappajohn Sculpture Park was disassembled for repairs—its metal structure is being fixed with new bolts and repainted. The park is also planning to raise nameplates and add paved areas, and Nomade is expected to return in spring.  WHO 13

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Iowa manufacturing faces reduced employment and long-term labor shortages as local companies struggle to attract a future workforce. Firms like 3M & Borgen Systems partnered with schools, including Knoxville High School, to promote hands-on technical training programs.  The Des Moines Register

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Crews recently took down Waukee’s old water tower, built in 1978, and dismantled it for recycling. A new tower holding 2.5 million gallons — five times the capacity of its predecessor — is now in service to meet the needs of a growing community.  KCCI
  • The Iowa DOT will host a hiring event on November 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Des Moines North Garage to recruit temporary snowplow drivers for the winter season—visitors can tour equipment and apply on the spot while speaking with staff.  KCCI

HEALTH NEWS

  • Iowans will set their clocks back an hour on Saturday night for daylight saving time — experts advise shifting bedtime by 10 to 15 minutes each night to help the body adjust and lower health risks. Christie Harris from Emplify Health by Gundersen says a gradual change can reduce sleep disruptions and related hazards.  Radio Iowa

  • As winter nears, many Iowans are planning to set sail for warm shores, with AAA-Iowa noting that over 70% favor Caribbean cruises—citing affordability and convenience. AAA studies show nearly 22 million Americans will take cruises next year, marking a nearly five percent rise from 2025.  Radio Iowa
