- ➤ Five candidates—Maria Alonzo, Marcus Coenen, Sara Hopkins, Ryan Howell and Skylar Mayberry-Mayes—are running for four Des Moines School Board seats as current board members Jackie Norris and Jenna Knox are not seeking re-election, with voting set for Nov. 4. The Des Moines Register
- ➤ A veteran high school English teacher shared his formative lessons on being true to oneself and recounted memories from challenging teen years in a 'Back to School' narrative on Sept 9 as part of the Iowa Storytellers Project — a project funded by the Hoyt Sherman Place Foundation and Des Moines Register. The next event, themed 'Hearts on Fire,' will be held on Feb 10 — with proceeds supporting Register internships. The Des Moines Register
- ➤ Iowa State University is interviewing eight candidates online this week as part of its search for a new president—closed session meetings are scheduled for today and Tuesday with finalists set to interview on campus during the first week of November. The board will announce the new president on Nov 11—current president Wendy Wintersteen will retire in January after serving since 2017. KCCI
