CRIME NEWS

  • The Ankeny Chamber of Commerce is suing its former president and CEO Melisa Cox after she pleaded guilty in April to stealing over $250,000 — the lawsuit seeks more than $300,000 in damages for theft, fraud and related costs following her dismissal in November after an internal audit, and she was sentenced in July to five years probation for four felony charges.  The Des Moines Register

EDUCATION NEWS

  • DMPS board chair Jackie Norris said the board will sue JG Consulting—responsible for recruiting former superintendent Ian Roberts—because the firm did not properly vet candidates.  The Des Moines Register
  • Hoover High School in Des Moines shows archival photos from its 1967 opening to years of lab work, building projects, and school events — a look back at key moments in its history. These images trace the school’s growth into a community landmark over many years.  The Des Moines Register
  • Ankeny School District has proposed a $130M bond to add new facilities and extra space at both Ankeny and Ankeny Centennial Schools if it wins the required 60% vote on November 4—plans include a new Innovative Hub, updates to sports fields and fine arts areas, and improvements at Ankeny Stadium while keeping the current debt service levy at $2.59.  WHO 13

  • West Des Moines Dowling beat Cedar Rapids Kennedy 34–0 at Kingston Stadium Friday night with a strong offense and a defense that kept Kennedy from scoring. Kennedy coach Brian White fell on the sideline after a player ran into him—he got quick treatment while Dowling outgained Kennedy 470 yards to 113.  The Gazette
