- ➤ Silverstar Car Wash on Hickman Road in Windsor Heights is turning its facility into a Halloween haunted tunnel that features eerie lighting—spooky sound effects and costumed characters draw visitors. Admission is $25 per vehicle and 10% of proceeds will benefit Windsor Heights Elementary School, with the tunnel open nightly from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. until October ends. KCCI
- ➤ The Des Moines Forestry Division is now accepting entries for its annual fall tree photo contest with submissions due through the end of October—the winner will have a tree planted in a public space of their choosing following a public vote. KCCI

- ➤ A Des Moines teen missing since July 12 was found safe on Oct. 2 after her case was featured in a statewide billboard campaign — police say she is healthy while investigations continue. The Des Moines Register
- ➤ Former Des Moines schools superintendent Ian Roberts is no longer held in Woodbury County Jail—he was arrested last Friday by ICE on a federal warrant, and after protests and barricades outside the facility, his name was removed from the jail roster. The Gazette

- ➤ Today, the Des Moines Public Schools board meets at 8 a.m. at 2100 Fleur Drive to explore legal options over Ian Roberts’ hiring after his arrest, misrepresented qualifications, and allegations of possessing firearms — Millcreek Township School District in Erie is also considering legal action against Roberts for a breach of trust.
