ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • ➤ Iowa DNR reported that three state beaches, including Backbone Beach, were unsafe for swimming for 12 weeks this summer, while other beaches like Prairie Rose had bans for fewer weeks — many beaches were rated safe all season. DNR tested water samples for E. coli and blue-green algae every week from before Memorial Day until Labor Day.  The Des Moines Register
