🌲 Environment
Iowa DNR reported that three state beaches, including Backbone Beach, were unsafe for swimming for 12 weeks this summer, while other beaches like Prairie Rose had bans for fewer weeks — many beaches were rated safe all season.
DNR tested water samples for E. coli and blue-green algae every week from before Memorial Day until Labor Day.
