Car enthusiasts are at Pappajohn Sculpture Park today for the Des Moines Concours d’Elegance charity event raising funds for Children’s Cancer Connection — the exhibit features antique, unique and modern cars with kids judging entries at 2 p.m. and exhibitors like John Bolen from Runnells showcasing his 1940 Chrysler Traveler restored over 12 years.

At the 4th Annual Porchfest last Sunday afternoon, 19 local bands played on 19 different porches in Union Park neighborhood while hundreds sat on lawn chairs to enjoy live music (the event brought local artists together).

Johnston Community School District launched a new book vending machine at all five elementary schools—students insert a coin to select a free book on their birthday, and the books follow the school libraries’ guidelines.
