  • Former public defender Cassi Corinn Wigington admitted she stole over 300 items from a Hy-Vee in Gretna, Nebraska between Aug. 6th, 2023 and Sept. 13th, 2023 due to financial hardships—her law license was suspended for six months after she paid $2,721 in restitution.  KCCI

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Iowa Department of Natural Resources reported Friday that 15 state beaches—plus two in the Des Moines area—had E. coli levels that made them unsafe for swimming this late summer. Officials advised residents to check updated water quality reports before visiting these spots.  The Des Moines Register
  • Iowa environmental and community groups sent a letter — signed by over a dozen organizations — urging Iowa's congressional delegation to oppose the PERMIT Act because it would weaken Clean Water Act protections and worsen the state's drinking water emergency. They warned that altering the law will lead to unsafe waterways, higher treatment costs, and further restrictions on water use in communities like Des Moines.  The Des Moines Register

  • Byron Patterson, owner of Byron’s Best Massage, has been charged with professional incompetence and unethical conduct by the Iowa Board of Massage Therapy after an investigation that began in 2023 — the board did not disclose details of the alleged misconduct. A hearing on the charges is set for Dec. 2.  The Des Moines Register
