ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On Saturday afternoon in Bremer County, a crash occurred when a 47-year-old Des Moines driver in a Toyota Tacoma failed to yield at a stop sign and collided with an 82-year-old driver in a Ford F150 on Piedmont Avenue—resulting in five injuries and the death of a 41-year-old passenger from Urbandale. - ➤ Des Moines police investigated a Saturday evening shooting in the River Bend neighborhood when first responders found a man with a gunshot injury and took him to a hospital—police said they will increase their presence as the investigation continues. KCCI
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Des Moines Public Schools community lost its former superintendent, Gary Wegenke, on August 20. He led the district for ten years—after serving in Waterloo and at Western Michigan—and a memorial service will be held in East Lansing next week. KCCI
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Drivers on I-80/35 near Hickman Road will face two overnight closures as the Iowa DOT reconfigures ramp operations—the southbound lane closes from 10 p.m. today until 4 a.m. Monday and again from 10 p.m. Tuesday until 4 a.m. Wednesday; some ramps will reopen Monday morning while detours via Highway 141 and local roads guide drivers.
