BUSINESS NEWS

  • Des Moines restaurateur Suman Hoque is using the Choose Iowa program to run his trailer at the Iowa State Fair where he serves a lamb wrap made with Iowa-raised lamb and local ingredients—this effort connects local producers with fairgoers and supports over 300 vendors statewide through demos, tastings and a food contest. The program also helps vendors share Iowa foods and build ties with consumers.  The Des Moines Register

CULTURE NEWS

  • The BudTent at the Iowa State Fair started in 1947 as a small beer stand and has grown into a family-run venue serving cold Budweiser and dishes like bacon-wrapped rib steak—drawing presidents and sports stars over the years. The tent moved to a busy location in 1979 and now offers live entertainment at East Side Night while keeping Iowa traditions alive.  The Des Moines Register
  • At the 2025 Iowa State Fair, state veterinarians oversaw the births of over two dozen animals as they screened all arrivals for bird flu and swine flu—assisting when needed. The Animal Learning Center now cares for seven species, and a calf born overnight is ready for children to help name.  WHO 13
  • Country trio Rascal Flatts returned to the Iowa State Fair today as part of their 25th anniversary tour, performing classic hits and a new single 'I Dare You' from their album Life Is a Highway: Refueled Duets.
