EDUCATION NEWS

  • Former DMACC administrator Kim Jackson, who served 26 years and was fired on July 2 for saying she once pulled a knife during a staff meeting, is suing the college for alleged age and racial discrimination—she claims her firing was a pretext since her role was replaced by younger white colleagues. • The Des Moines City Council will hold a second vote today on raising the franchise fee on gas and electric bills from 5% to 7.5% to help cover DART’s funding gap amid disagreements among council members. • Iowa native astronaut Peggy Whitson led the Axiom-4 mission on the ISS that performed more than 60 experiments with a four-member crew from India, Hungary and Poland, and the crew returned safely after launching on June 25 and splashing down on July 15.
