CRIME NEWS

  • On July 10th, Des Moines police closed the Waveland Golf Course on the south side after a suspicious device was found near a hole, and the Bomb Squad safely detonated the improvised explosive device + officers then searched the area and collected evidence.  Radio Iowa
  • Iowa State Patrol troopers chased a suspect through Des Moines and followed the chase into Fairmont Park Neighborhood to a residence in the 2900 block of East 22nd Court — authorities are now searching for the suspect and attempting to make an arrest.  KCCI

CULTURE NEWS

  • Paul McCartney announced his first North American tour since 2022 + he will perform in Des Moines at Casey’s Center on Oct. 14 + tickets go on sale July 18.  The Gazette

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Water quality protesters gathered along Fleur Drive at the Italian-American Cultural Center of Iowa groundbreaking on July 10 in Des Moines — they confronted Gov. Kim Reynolds over high nitrate levels that have led to an ongoing lawn-watering ban in the metro.  The Des Moines Register

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On July 10, Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird announced that Iowa will receive up to $5.4 million from a national opioid settlement involving eight drug manufacturers. The funds will support efforts to fight opioid addiction and include limits on opioid promotion — a measure intended to reduce the crisis.  The Des Moines Register

  • The DCG softball team beat Waukee Northwest 8-3 and will play the winner of the Denison-Schleswig and Glenwood game on Saturday. The baseball team won 12-10 over Johnston on Monday and heads to Lewis Central today to try to settle the score.  The Des Moines Register
