ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ One person was hospitalized Friday after a rollover crash on NE Edgewood Drive in Grimes—an adult male was taken to a nearby hospital with severe injuries as authorities blocked the road between NE 5th and NE 8th streets while the investigation continues. KCCI
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A group will gather in front of the Mason City TV station where anchor Jodie Huisentruit disappeared 30 years ago today — organizers and former colleagues report that her loss still deeply affects those close to her while police continue investigating the unsolved case, even after a neighbor of interest died last year. - ➤ Des Moines Police arrested Mario Ricardo Campos, 44, after a pickup truck hit and killed 53-year-old Andrew E. Verwers on June 23rd at the Merle Hay and Hickman intersection — police say evidence shows Campos was impaired at the time. The Des Moines Register
- ➤ The WET Rescue team and DMPD responded at around 8:00 p.m. Friday to a 911 call reporting a possible body in the Des Moines River near the Court Avenue bridge, and police increased their presence along the river as the search continued. WHO 13
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Iowa’s new hands-free driving law will go into effect on July 1, banning drivers from holding or using their phones while driving to reduce distractions. Law enforcement will initially issue warnings and fines will begin Jan 1 + the law includes exceptions for emergencies and certain workers. Iowa Public Radio
- ➤ Senator Grassley wrote on June 27th to the incoming postmaster general to warn that delivery issues with bills, checks and mail delays have led Iowans to report problems with the USPS service—Congresswoman Hinson said reforms are needed to ensure rural residents continue to receive timely mail.
