Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 19th of June.
Good morning, Des Moines.
The Iowa Juneteenth Jubilee took place yesterday at the State Historical Building in Des Moines (with Mayor Connie Boesen reading a proclamation and awards, including Citizen of The Year to Paula Bell) as community leaders celebrated local contributions.
The DMPS marine biology program received three weedy sea dragons from Shedd Aquarium at central campus, adding hands-on learning for students.
Community members can view the new creatures and support the local program.
Today, Juneteenth causes closures for many services in Des Moines, with major banks, the post office and public libraries closed while grocery stores, UPS and FedEx remain open.
Garbage pickup stays on schedule so residents can plan their errands accordingly.
