  • Indianola held its first Dad’s Rock Festival, a family event featuring a man cave with a 35-foot TV, Big Boy Toy Zone, and barbecue — and a Dad Bod Parade that gave awards for fun styles like jean shorts and mowing attire. Amanda Zwanziger and Justin Shaw said the festival brought dads and kids together with crafts and lively activities.  WHO 13
  • On June 14, the Bacoon Ride celebrated its 11th anniversary with a 'Riders of Hogwarts' theme as it rolled through Dallas Center and Perry—members of Dallas Center Boy Scout Troop 116 handed out bacon pastries while pulled pork sliders were served along the Raccoon River Valley Trail.  The Des Moines Register

  • On June 13 at about 7:50 p.m., a car struck two pedestrians at the intersection of Bloomington and Grand Avenue in Ames near North Grand Mall (one pedestrian died at Mary Greeley Medical Center and the other was transferred to a Des Moines hospital) as the Iowa State Patrol investigates.  The Des Moines Register

CRIME NEWS

  • Iowa politicians condemned political violence and extended condolences to families of Minnesota lawmakers after targeted shootings on June 14 that killed Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband and left Senator John Hoffman and his wife injured—officials reported increased security for lawmakers named in a suspect's list.  The Des Moines Register
  • Today, Minnesota state senator John Hoffman and his wife Yvette were shot early this morning in their home—Hoffman worked in Polk County and the State of Iowa from 1991 to 2001 while Yvette had ties to a Des Moines radio station.  Radio Iowa

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate announced on June 14 that he will run for a fifth term in 2026 and said he will continue improving voter registration and election security—he plans to build on his record in office.  The Des Moines Register

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Adventureland in Altoona is hosting its inaugural Father’s Day Flop contest today at Adventure Bay, where 15 dads who sign up early will drop into the wave pool to earn gift cards from Prairie Meadows—$100 for first, $70 for second, and $50 for third—and the contest adds a fun event to the park’s 51st season that began on May 17.  The Des Moines Register
