Iowa DOT has four major road construction projects planned around Des Moines this summer.

The I-35/80 and Hickman Road interchange is in its first year with four ramps set to reopen this fall, the I-80 widening project has started new westbound lanes with traffic shifts planned by 2026, the I-35 expansion between Ankeny and Huxley has already opened a new bridge on May 29 with further work scheduled by late 2026, and Highway 141 and 415 projects (including an asphalt overlay and roundabout conversion) are set to finish by late 2025.

More than two dozen corgis raced at Smash Park in West Des Moines on May 29 with Leo winning the championship over Cooper and Cankles—this annual event showcased the dogs’ speed and charm.
