- ➤ Fifty teams will race along Walnut Street by the Capitol today at the Red Bull Soapbox Race to raise money for Blank Children’s Hospital—pit row opens at 10 a.m. and the race starts at 12:05 p.m.—while they perform a short skit. InRoads Paving’s Road Doctors team will compete with their vehicle called the Wambulance and aim to raise $20k. WHO 13

- ➤ Christian Royston, a 26-year-old former Iowa State student from Johnston who worked for the Iowa State Daily, died in a wrong-way crash on Highway 30 near Ames at 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday when a 41-year-old woman drove westbound in the eastbound lanes and collided head-on with his car—friends and family remember him for his joyful nature. - ➤ Des Moines police are searching for a 10-year-old boy who went missing late last night—he was last seen on Fleur Drive in Watrous South at 11 p.m. wearing a black T-shirt, bright green shorts and white tennis shoes and is reported to be in crisis—so anyone with information should call 911. KCCI
- ➤ The final defendant in the 2022 drive-by shooting near East High School, Nyang Mai Chamdual, 17, who fired a .38 revolver when he was 14 on March 7—killing 15-year-old Jose Lopez and injuring two others—was sentenced Friday to life in prison with the possibility of parole and will turn 18 next month. - ➤ The Des Moines Police Department is searching for 15-year-old Maribel who was last seen May 27 on Virginia Avenue in the Indianola Hills neighborhood and who needs her medication due to a medical condition+ she is 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs about 180 pounds. The Des Moines Register

- ➤ Iowa DOT has four major road construction projects planned around Des Moines this summer. The I-35/80 and Hickman Road interchange is in its first year with four ramps set to reopen this fall, the I-80 widening project has started new westbound lanes with traffic shifts planned by 2026, the I-35 expansion between Ankeny and Huxley has already opened a new bridge on May 29 with further work scheduled by late 2026, and Highway 141 and 415 projects (including an asphalt overlay and roundabout conversion) are set to finish by late 2025. - ➤ The Principal Charity Classic began Friday at Wakonda Club in Des Moines and will run through Sunday as top golfers compete and funds benefit Iowa children's charities—helping with bike programs and career training for youth.
