- ➤ West Des Moines police asked the public to help locate 13-year-old Dihanna Renee Hughes (last seen Saturday at 11:30 p.m. near 11th Street and Office Park Road) in the Des Moines metro area, describing her as a Black teen with brown hair and brown eyes wearing a dark long-sleeved shirt and leggings with a white star on the side. - ➤ Chikin Lickin in Waukee brings Korean fried chicken to Iowa by serving wings, tenders, and combos—tossed in seven sauces ranging from sweet to spicy. Co-owner Thi Nguyen, a Roosevelt High School graduate, said the restaurant offers Asian street food and a pay-it-forward program as it celebrates its one-year anniversary this month. KCCI
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Supporters and critics of the PBM reform bill are urging Governor Reynolds for action as the measure passed the legislature and awaits her decision by June 11th. Pharmacists say the law will secure fair reimbursements to prevent closures while business groups warn it could add nearly $340 million in costs to pharmacy care—Reynolds has not yet commented. - ➤ The 2020 killing of an unarmed Black man by a white officer sparked a big movement in Des Moines that grew into Black Lives Matter (now called Black Liberation Movement) and led to changes in local policing. Earlier this month, Gov. Kim Reynolds signed a law (banning citizen police review boards in cities with civil service commissions) that NAACP President Betty Andrews said now limits public oversight while local police report stronger neighborhood ties.
