- ➤ Ankeny's new glow-in-the-dark trail is now open for visitors to walk a 425-foot segment off the High Trestle Trail that features pavement glowing in the dark. The trail is part of the High Trestle Trail Experience Park project built with a $1 million investment and a $20,000 grant from Bravo Greater Des Moines—its dedication is planned for June. - ➤ Perry Lutheran Homes is hosting a free summer concert series that begins today at Eden Acres Campus with a performance by Jamie Aaron Kelley at 7 p.m. The series also includes concerts on June 9, June 30, and Aug 18—families and seniors are invited to attend— while food will be available for purchase. - ➤ On May 17, families gathered at Chichaqua Bottoms Greenbelt Park to see the opening of a new natural playscape featuring a pebble harp, mud kitchen, logs, and hay bales that replace the old wooden playground. The park has grown to nearly 10,000 acres since its first land acquisition in 1960 and nearby camping areas at 8600 N.E. 126 Ave were also renovated to further support family outings. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A security guard was shot in the leg at an Oak Park business early May 18 and taken to the hospital after a 26-year-old suspect was arrested on attempted murder charges — police also reported that a separate shooting in the Drake neighborhood on Saturday evening injured a person who fled the scene and later crashed near Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway and Meek Avenue, resulting in hospitalization.
