- ➤ Four dogs—Nacho, Curro, Ruckus, and Ranger—were inducted into the 2025 Iowa Animal Hall of Fame when the Iowa Veterinary Medical Association and Hill's Pet Nutrition honored them for their bravery and companionship. - ➤ Dry weather helped Iowa farmers plant more seeds last week as USDA data showed corn planting increased from 49% to 76% complete and soybean planting from 38% to 64% complete. - ➤ Rep. Angel Ramirez, Iowa’s first Latina legislator, was sworn in at the Iowa State Capitol on May 13 — her historic oath celebrated by family and friends — marking a milestone in the state legislature. The Des Moines Register
- ➤ Iowa Pharmacy Association CEO Kate Gainer stepped down after two decades at the IPA — her efforts led to a historic PBM reform bill passing on Monday. She will remain in Iowa and spend time with her family before planning her next move. WHO 13
- ➤ The Senate adjourned Friday after a debate over a bill that would stop the use of eminent domain for a carbon pipeline, during which Senator Amy Sinclair shouted 'You will be escorted out' as supporters chanted. The vote is set for Monday, and groups have opposed the pipeline for years—citing risks to public safety and land—and some local business leaders believe it could boost Iowa’s agriculture. KDSM 17

- ➤ A federal report shows that in the third quarter of 2024, 11 out of Iowa’s 410 nursing homes had staffing levels at least 40% below what residents need—seven of these had state citations in the past 10 years.
