- ➤ Des Moines police responded to a crash between a school bus and a van (at East 33rd Street and East Euclid Avenue) while checking for injuries. KCCI
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Des Moines police are searching for Daniel Joseph Scott, 40, who is accused of arson and theft in March after a vehicle stolen from a convenience store was found abandoned and burned with three missing guns — he is believed to be armed and anyone with information is urged to call 911. KCCI
- ➤ West Des Moines police are asking the public for help to find 28-year-old Claire Cassidy Carlson, who is believed to be in crisis and was last seen near parks with large bodies of water in the metro area—she is described as having hazel eyes, brown-blonde hair, standing 5-foot-7 tall and wearing leggings and sweatshirts. The Des Moines Register

- ➤ Dowling Catholic High School honored the Foth family at a varsity soccer home game Tuesday night as community members showed support for Ava—a sophomore who received a bone marrow transplant—and her brother John who donated his marrow and is now recovering at the hospital. The family continues to fight the impacts of Ava’s treatment while encouraging others to join the donor registry. WHO 13
- ➤ The Iowa Board of Nursing has declined to issue a license to Alizia M. Gary—a Davenport nursing assistant who pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit bank fraud on April 9, 2024 and is on probation—citing insufficient evidence of rehabilitation. The board said that if Gary stays conviction-free and submits letters of reference from employers, her application may be reviewed more favorably in the future. The Des Moines Register
- ➤ Dr. Wanakee Carr is one of Iowa’s few Black OB-GYN doctors and works at The Iowa Clinic in West Des Moines, caring for patients as the state faces a shortage of OB-GYN specialists, especially in rural areas. She began her obstetrics career in 2012 and now has a six-month schedule of appointments (a challenge shared by many providers statewide). The Des Moines Register
