- ➤ Tin Lam created the app EatFuti to help Iowa restaurants show their culture and food with custom dish details. The app began with a few partners during the pandemic and now works with 150 outlets — Lam hopes it will give local restaurants more customers — as it brings unique stories to light. KCCI
- ➤ A federal judge on Friday blocked Iowa House File 2677 that would have required vaping products to get FDA marketing authorization, a decision Central Iowa Vapors called a win in the right direction. Ashley Hartman, the chief strategy officer, said the law would have forced most stores to close and she hopes the state rewrites the law to allow fair regulation. KCCI

- ➤ Des Moines man Kristofer Zech pleaded guilty to charges for operating while intoxicated, failure to yield on his left turn, and reckless driving after a crash that killed Spencer Rush last year—he is set to be sentenced next month and could face up to five years in prison. KCCI
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Iowa Department of Natural Resources investigated a diesel spill that leaked 4,000 gallons from an above-ground storage tank at an agricultural site near Dallas Center on Saturday—diesel also entered Little Walnut Creek as residents in Waukee reported strong fuel odors. Absorbent booms were placed in the creek to limit the spread—officials warn the public to stay out of the water. KCCI
- ➤ The Iowa Department of Natural Resources said that several black bears spent the winter in northeastern Iowa, a sign that an established breeding population could emerge if overwintering females persist—officials noted eight sightings last year compared to an average of five and are working with local agencies to educate residents on safe practices. - ➤ The Iowa DNR said a diesel fuel spill from an above-ground tank leak on Saturday released about 4,000 gallons at an agricultural site near Dallas County and that some diesel reached Little Walnut Creek near Waukee. Officials placed absorbent booms & deployed containment measures in the creek while advising residents to stay away & continue monitoring the area as they investigate the spill's cause. WHO 13

- ➤ The Iowa DOT is closing westbound lanes on I-80 between the U.S. Highway 65 interchange near Altoona and the northeast mixmaster in Des Moines tonight at 10 p.m. for road construction and will reopen at 5 a.m. tomorrow—drivers must follow a detour via the U.S. Highway 65 bypass, Hubbell and Euclid avenues to rejoin the highway.
