- ➤ Des Moines Downtown Farmer’s Market returns for its 50th season, launching Saturday, May 3 at 7 a.m. and expecting 40,000 shoppers across 12 downtown blocks with over 300 vendors — including 48 new ones offering fresh produce, crafts, and baked goods. Visitors can use SNAP EBT cards — join the Double Up Food Bucks program for extra funds — and take advantage of free bike valet plus nearby parking options. The Des Moines Register
- ➤ Evie, a 6-year-old from Adel with a respiratory disorder, had her wish granted by Make-A-Wish to meet Princess Belle and other Disney princesses at a family ball held earlier this week—she says it was a night she will never forget. KCCI

- ➤ Iowa farmers have not been able to finish planting corn and soybeans due to heavy rain since April 19th—agronomist Angie Rieck Hinz said the wet conditions have kept fields from drying enough to work. Planting will resume once a hot, dry period starts at the end of next week, even though early reports show lower planting percentages. Radio Iowa

- ➤ Perry High School will hold its prom grand march on May 3 at the Performing Arts Center with doors opening at 4:30 p.m. and the march starting at 5:00 p.m.; students will then move to the Perry National Guard Armory for dinner and dance while after-prom activities featuring trampolines, obstacle courses and dodgeball will take place at Urban Air in Ankeny—all set under the Lantern Lit Evening theme.
