- ➤ The Youth Justice Initiative in West Des Moines helps at-risk youth improve academics, repair family bonds, and avoid a criminal record through monthly circle meetings—this program recorded a recidivism rate of less than 10% in fiscal 2024. - ➤ On Feb. 24, lawmaker Rep. Charley Thomson ordered Iowa Migrant Movement for Justice to share its private details on legal work, donors and members, but the group refused the order saying it hurt privacy and intimidated immigrant communities. An attorney for the organization said on April 18 that the order was not legal—Thomson has not commented further as other lawmakers questioned his power. KCCI
