  • The nonprofit The Final Salute will lay to rest 170 unclaimed Iowans' urns at Avon Cemetery this Saturday. A procession departs from Southridge Mall at 9:15 a.m., with the ceremony starting at 10 a.m.  KCCI

  • Adverse weather limited fieldwork last week, with a USDA report noting only three days of suitable planting conditions. Corn planting increased from 1% to 2% – 14% behind last year's pace, and soybeans reached just 1% compared to 10% at this time.  Radio Iowa

  • Forecasters say a potentially 'super' El Niño event may bring cooler summer temperatures & near-normal rainfall to Iowa, easing drought risks while local severe weather remains unpredictable. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Drivers on Des Moines interstates will face an overnight ramp closure from westbound I‑80 to northbound I‑35 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. between April 21 and April 24 due to an Iowa DOT project — motorists must follow a detour via U.S. Highway 69.  The Des Moines Register
  • U.S.D.A. Rural Development approved about $4 million in grants to help independent gas stations upgrade to renewable fuel technology. The funding supports adding E-15, E-85, and B-20 dispensers at sites in various Iowa counties — including Delaware, Dubuque, and Keokuk.  Radio Iowa
  • Neighbors near Hanawalt Elementary want traffic improvements on 56th Street near Robertson Drive during school pick-up and drop-off, and city engineers plan to discuss solutions with Des Moines Public Schools amid concerns over congestion and speeding.  The Des Moines Register
