- ➤ Today, a section of the Trestle to Trestle Trail closes for repairs as Des Moines Parks and Recreation crews work to fix uneven surfaces for safety—no detour is provided. The trail will reopen Tuesday. KCCI

- ➤ Mundo Pequeño is a daycare on Des Moines south side that serves nearly 60 infants and toddlers and teaches Spanish even though 80% do not speak it at home (many learn quickly). Co-founder Lupita Castillo started the center after caring for her special needs son and says the staff treats each child like family. KCCI
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Residents in Des Moines must update their licenses to Real IDs by May 7 because these IDs will be needed for boarding flights and entering certain government buildings. The update takes 30 days—so those needing a new ID should act soon to avoid delays. The Des Moines Register
- ➤ The U.S. Navy commissioned the new USS Iowa, a nuclear-powered submarine and the fourth vessel with the name, this weekend in Connecticut where it was built. Former Iowa First Lady Christie Vilsack gave the order to man the ship as Governor Kim Reynolds highlighted its role in continuing Iowa’s naval legacy—its advanced stealth technology set to redefine its operations.
