CRIME NEWS

  • Senior District Court Judge James Drew ruled that part of a 2017 search warrant using GPS data from two cars tied to John Vansice in the 1995 disappearance of TV anchor Jodi Huisentruit will be unsealed while key details stay secret. The records will be made public in 31 days unless an appeal is filed by County Attorney Carlyle Dalen or private investigator Steve Ridge + the ruling aims to protect the ongoing investigation.  The Gazette
  • Police are investigating after a man with a gunshot wound to his torso was dropped off at Broadlawns Medical Center at 9:05 a.m. Friday — a private vehicle dropped him off and then left — and officers said the incident may be linked to a shots fired call in Prospect Park with no ongoing danger to the area.  WHO 13

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Iowa Economic Development Authority’s proposal to overhaul state tax credits—advanced on March 28th at 8:14 a.m.—passed through House and Senate subcommittees. The plan would limit research and development credits to $40 million per year and set aside $5 million to boost sustainable aviation fuel while rural nonprofit leaders worry that ending the Endow Iowa credit may hurt community support.  Iowa Public Radio

  • The Major Arena Soccer League Women’s National Championship Playoffs are taking place in Des Moines at Buccaneer Arena this weekend. The Iowa Demon Hawks women’s team won its quarterfinal game 7-3 over the ICT Aztecs on Friday—semifinals are today and the championship will take place on Sunday with the best six teams from the U.S. and Mexico competing.  KCCI
