ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Tornado sirens will sound across Iowa today at 10 a.m. as part of a statewide drill for National Severe Weather Awareness Week. Residents are advised to treat the drill like a real emergency by locating safe shelter (such as basements or interior rooms) before the test begins. KCCI
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Residents in Pleasant Hill have until April 26 to use rebuilding assistance offered under a disaster declaration that waives permit fees for repairs after an EF-2 tornado struck on April 26, 2024 + the Building Department stands ready to help. KCCI
- ➤ Des Moines City Council removed fees for first time pet reclamation to ease costs for owners picking up pets from the animal shelter. The Council also raised licensing and boarding fees, and the new schedule will take effect on April 1 + it aims to reduce shelter stay lengths. The Des Moines Register
