- ➤ A man was shot during a police encounter on Thursday just after 4:30 p.m. near Southwest 9th Street and Wade Street and remains hospitalized after officers chased a suspect who first assaulted a woman — a witness said she saw the suspect on top of an officer before officers maced and tased him while police confirmed the suspect sustained a gunshot wound to his torso and the officer was treated for a head injury and later released. - ➤ Today, Des Moines will hold a public hearing at City Hall at 7:30 a.m. where residents can share views on keeping the property tax levy rate at $16.61 per $1,000 for fiscal year 2026; later today, the City Council will vote on the recommended budget that includes $839.3 million in operating funds.
