ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Firefighters battled a house fire off Northeast 52nd Court east of Des Moines Friday afternoon — a child alerted a parent and the family escaped while crews from Bondurant, Altoona and Pleasant Hill responded and reported smoke damage as officials investigated the cause. KCCI
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Des Moines police arrested 20-year-old Jae'Qwan Hutchinson after a Lyft driver reported being shot at on the 1900 block of Carpenter Avenue in the Good Park neighborhood; officers recovered a handgun and noted bullet holes in the car, and he now faces charges of intimidation with a dangerous weapon, second-degree criminal mischief and possession of a controlled substance (marijuana). - ➤ Book lovers gather today at the Des Moines Book Festival at the Franklin Event Center where headlining authors speak at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. The free event features 74 authors, panel discussions, kids' activities + six food trucks and runs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Radio Iowa
- ➤ This spring, a paint-by-number mural will be put on the Downtown Skywalk at 700 Locust Street near Happy Home Coffee as local shops extend hours to support the event. Local artist Claire Sedovic has partnered with Greater Des Moines Partnership to create interactive art that shows city icons—like the Botanical Garden dome and the Iowa State Fair Butter Cow—and asks neighbors to help with the project—she says the mural will bring people together.
