  • On Sunday morning, a helicopter lifted heavy cooling equipment (weighing 9,000 pounds) to the top of the 35-story Ruan Center in downtown Des Moines. Des Moines police (which shut down nearby roads) helped keep the area safe during the project’s second phase.  KCCI

CULTURE NEWS

  • Central Iowa high school band students from Waukee Northwest Royal Brigade will march in Dublin's St. Patrick's Day Parade tomorrow at 7 a.m. Iowa time—rehearsals posted by Kilkenny Councilor Andrew McGuiness confirmed the schedule—and the event will air on Iowa PBS.  KCCI
  • On March 15th, partygoers celebrated St. Patrick's Day with a bar crawl through nine downtown venues — enjoying themed drinks, games, and green beads. In Waukee, Mickey’s Irish Pub held its own event — featuring live Irish music and green beer.  The Des Moines Register

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the Iowa DOT begins closing exit 102 on I-35 near Huxley for road expansion work that will add new southbound lanes — update the interchange and lengthen the highway bridge. Drivers will follow a detour via 126th Avenue — Highway 69 and Highway 210 while contractors plan to reopen the interchange by December 1.  The Des Moines Register

  • Mackenzie Dryden, who was 18 when she was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, is now recovering on her family farm in Winterset and posted a TikTok rant urging viewers to live life fully — her video reached nearly 2 million people.  The Des Moines Register
