- ➤ Iowa lawmakers will likely use reserve funds to cover a nearly $900 million gap in the state budget—caused by an expected drop in revenue to $8.51 billion for the fiscal year starting July 1. - ➤ The USDA canceled two programs that would have provided over $1 billion in funding to help schools and food banks buy local food, leaving Iowa to lose more than $11 million while local farmers and food advocates warn of serious impacts on food security—agencies now have 60 days to complete the termination process.
