COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A Des Moines family held a memorial for Matthew Ringgenburg on Sunday at a roadside site on Southwest Ninth Street near Luster Lane—where he died in a crash last June—to mark his first heavenly birthday and remind drivers to share the road; the related trial is set for May.  KCCI

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • An owl was rescued from a truck bumper in Norwalk when police responded to a call about the bird stuck in the grill. Iowa Bird Rehabilitation explained (it happens when owls dive too low pursuing prey) and the owl is now safe.  KCCI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Six soldiers from an Army Reserve unit had their remains returned at Dover Air Force Base on March 7; Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds and the congressional delegation attended the solemn ceremony — two of the fallen were Iowans, and their remains were taken to the base’s military mortuary for final arrangements.  Radio Iowa

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. Wanakee Carr, one of Iowa's few Black OB-GYNs, works at the Iowa Clinic in West Des Moines & Ankeny where patients are booked five months out, highlighting a statewide shortage. She also leads the local American Heart Association chapter and meets with lawmakers to improve care.  KCCI
