BUSINESS NEWS

  • Operators of Honey Creek Resort have asked Polk County District Court to extend the reopening order after winter damages left the property compromised — including broken fencing and missing ceiling tiles. The request seeks additional time to complete necessary repairs.  The Des Moines Register

CULTURE NEWS

  • Ramadan began Tuesday evening, marking a month of fasting and reflection for the local Muslim community, with an iftar meal at the Islamic and Educational Center on Saturday, Feb. 28 from 5:45 p.m. to 7 p.m. and a prayer event in Granger starting at 8 p.m.  The Des Moines Register
  • Des Moines kicked off Lunar New Year festivities on Feb. 17 with Dim Sum Night at Arcadia and will continue hosting community events including Dumpling House pop-up on Feb. 21, Polk County’s conservation program on Feb. 22, and Korean New Year storytime (at the Public Library) for families.  The Des Moines Register

  • A coalition of clean water advocates, including Food and Water Watch + Iowa Environmental Council, announced they will sue the EPA in 60 days if it does not restore protections for six waterways, including the Raccoon River through Des Moines, reversed in July 2025 amid rising nitrate levels.  Iowa Starting Line
