COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Saturday, cyclists gathered at Union Park to remember Alex Pretti and Renee Good, who were killed earlier this month by immigration enforcement agents in Minnesota. Organizers said the Des Moines ride — one of 230 worldwide — united the community to honor the two cyclists.  KCCI
  • More than 150 cyclists gathered in Des Moines on Saturday for a ride from Union Park to the capitol to honor Alex Pretti, a local cyclist and ICU nurse whose legacy united the community. Organized by local groups, the event inspired similar rides across the nation.  The Des Moines Register

  • USA 250 events in Iowa include a naturalization ceremony on Feb. 6 at the Iowa Capitol rotunda, Bald Eagle Day on Feb. 7 at the Southeast Sixth Street bridge in Des Moines, and a lecture called Our American Experiment on Feb. 10 at Iowa State University in Ames; all events are free.  The Des Moines Register
