ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Fort Des Moines Little League's concession stand burned down Monday night, forcing a safety closure for investigation while the team plans to hold its season with makeshift concessions (supported by insurance and help from Little League of America).  The Des Moines Register

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Des Moines International Airport closed out 2025 with 3.25 million passengers, a 2.4% rise from 2024 despite weather-related flight cancellations. The airport is expanding with a $600 million project that will add 11 gates and relocate its rental car center near Army Post Road + SW 28th Street.  The Des Moines Register

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Des Moines Police use memes on social media to alert residents about mobile radar locations while adding humor to safety updates. Their posts, dating from 2020 (including Thanksgiving and the Iowa State Fair), keep community members informed and engaged.  The Des Moines Register
  • Gov. Kim Reynolds announced her cancer spending plan for 2026 during her final Condition of the State address. The plan will adjust state funding to improve cancer care and research across Iowa in the coming year.  The Des Moines Register
