- ➤ A technician discovered a 10-year-old military challenge coin lost in a diner car while renovating a train at Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad on Jan. 2, prompting a Facebook post that reached Kevin Waldron’s mother; the coin, which marked his promotion to second lieutenant, will soon be returned. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Drivers on northbound I-80/35 near Hickman Road will face closures and detours from 10 p.m. Jan. 4 to 4 a.m. Jan. 5 and again from the evening of Jan. 5 until Jan. 6 as crews work on construction. During closures, drivers will be directed from University Avenue to 100th Street — then along NW Urbandale Drive to rejoin I-80 at Meredith Drive. The Des Moines Register
